Can I have multiple designs on my box(es)? Unfortunately, no. If you wish to have more than one design, you will need to place a separate order.
How large is the engraved area? The maximum dimensions are 9” width x 4” height, but may be less depending on the design or character quantity.
How many sides does the engraving appear on? The engraving will appear on two sides of the box — the front and back (short sides).
Do I get a proof of my box prior to shipping? No, you will not receive any proof for approval, so be sure your customization form is filled out accurately. If our design team has any questions, they will contact you directly.
Can I paint over the engraving? Yes, the engraving is deep enough for paint to be applied and show contrast. However, we recommend not applying paint to engraved photos as the image will not present well.
What grade of lumber are the custom-engraved boxes made from? All custom-engraved boxes are made from select-grade eastern white pine, which contains mostly clear lumber and allows for some small, tight knots.
Which size should I get? 10-frame equipment allows for more space for brood and honey production, but weighs more when full. If you struggle to lift a full 10-frame hive body or super, an 8-frame hive may be a good alternative.
Is assembly required? Yes. We recommend using Hivebond 4000 (or similar waterproof wood glue) and 7D nails to assemble your box.
Where are Pura hive bodies made? Each hive component is made entirely in our factory in Sioux Falls, SD.

Quicker, easier assembly.
Assemble up to 3 times faster than standard finger-jointed boxes with Pura’s self-squaring, interlocking dovetails. Just glue and join with a rubber mallet — No squaring tool needed. Nailing or stapling is optional, but not necessary.
Stronger joints.
Precision-cut dovetails interlock stronger than any other joint. Our half-blind design contains 25% less end grain exposure than standard box joints, reducing the opportunity to rot.
Better frame rest.
An inset frame rest creates a full top joint, so no need to worry about accidentally chipping your box at its corners as you remove a frame for inspection.
Broader handhold.
Tested and approved by commercial beekeepers across America, our extra-wide, deep-grooved handle makes lifting with gloves easy as pie. A gradual taper at the bottom of the handle repels all rainwater.
